Project background

As part of the renovation of the Yvoire well and its water intake at Lake Léman (Switzerland), PAVELEC FIXATOR, a specialist in high-access and handling solutions, was called upon to design and supply the equipment necessary for carrying out the work safely.

The intervention concerned a technical structure with particular access restrictions above the capture well.

To meet the requirements of the project, FIXATOR it developed a customized solution that combines suspended access, lifting, and operator safety.

A bespoke suspended cradle

The delivery included the design and supply of a suspended cradle that would move along a monorail gantry installed above the well to allow teams to work in optimal safety and comfort conditions.

The access device includes:

    • A mobile gantry with a width of 5m, a height of 3.3m and a capacity of 400kg, positioned above the well to allow the suspension and translation of the cradle;
    • A chain-driven translation trolley dedicated to lifting people, with a capacity of 400kg;
    • The m.lift manual lifting winch for lifting people (load capacity 400kg) adapted to the needs of the work;
    • An anti-fall device integrated into the manual winch;
    • A suspended cradle 700×700 capacity 2 people equipped with 2 steel cable reels (lifting cable + safety cable).
This configuration enabled PAVELEC to have a reliable and efficient access solution to carry out the renovation operations of the water supply system of Lake Léman.

Manual winch m.lift FIXATOR: a lifting winch adapted for deep-level interventions

To ensure the lifting of the suspended platform, FIXATOR it was recommended to use its manual winch m.lift. This choice was made after analyzing the specific operating conditions of the Yvoire well.

With a relatively limited lifting height of approximately 16 meters, the use of a manual crane was a perfectly suited solution to the needs of the construction site, while offering a higher level of safety in this particular environment.

Although an electric winch e.lift can generally provide increased user comfort, Several factors led to the decision to opt for a manual winch :

  • The immediate proximity to water required that the use of electrical equipment be limited as much as possible;
  • In the event of a power failure, an electric winch only allows the platform to be lowered down, but does not guarantee its return up until the power is restored;
  • Regarding a work located deep within, A power cut could have immobilized the platform and its operator at the bottom of the well, leading to a disruption in work and significant operational constraints.

The manual winch, on the other hand, m.lift FIXATOR provides a total independence vis-a-vis from any source of energy. Operators can thus carry out both the ascent and descent of the platform at any time, regardless of external conditions.

Suspended cradle and safety for deep-penetrating interventions

The combination of the suspended platform FIXATOR, the lifting system and the safety equipment offered a complete solution for operations above the well. The design was carried out taking into account the operational constraints, the restricted access and the handling requirements associated with this type of hydraulic structure.

Thanks to this installation, the teams were able to carry out the work in enhanced safety conditions while optimizing the productivity of the site.

A suspended access solution designed for the PAVELEC construction site

This achievement illustrates the company’s ability to FIXATOR accompany specialized companies such as PAVELEC in implementing high-altitude access solutions adapted to the most demanding technical environments.

At the end of the project, PAVELEC expressed its satisfaction with the equipment provided and the support provided throughout the project:

The portico has completely satisfied us during the construction work. We thank you for your professionalism and the perfect follow-up of this project in all respects.

This testimony highlights the quality of the collaboration between the two companies as well as their commitment FIXATOR to providing reliable, secure and perfectly tailored solutions to their customers’ needs.
